About the Role

Journey Fellowship San Antonio is seeking a full-time Discipleship Pastor/Minister/Director to lead our Adult, Community, and Care ministries. We are looking for a Disciple Maker: someone with a distinct calling and passion for helping adults actively engage and continuously grow in their relationship with Christ.
Our Discipleship pathway includes large gatherings, events, and classes for Men’s, Women’s, and Marriage ministries.

The Community pathway includes Community Groups, service opportunities in the surrounding community, and partnerships with various civic organizations (school districts, YMCA, city governments, etc.).

The Care pathway involves supporting various needs of the congregation such as recovery, hospital visits, crisis response, etc.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Born-again believer, maturing in their faith, who aligns with the beliefs of Journey Fellowship (explore our website at https://myjf.church/beliefs).

  • Formal Ministry Training from a Bible college or seminary is highly desired.

  • Strong knowledge of the Bible with a calling and passion for Christian discipleship.*

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Hands-on experience in organizing ministries, classes, and community groups, including subject matter selection/development and the training of lay leaders.

* We are searching for a long-term partnership with someone content to lead at this level. There will be minimal opportunities to preach and/or substitute for the Lead Pastor.

 

Staffing Hierarchy:

  • Reports to the Lead Pastor

  • Supervises lay leaders within the Adult, Community, and Care ministries

 

Major Responsibilities:

Discipleship – Adult Ministries

  • Advocate the discipleship vision of Journey Fellowship to the congregation.

  • Provide direct oversight and support for Adult ministries (Men’s, Women’s, Marriage) to ensure activities align with overall mission, vision, values of Journey Fellowship.

  • Assist lay leaders in seasonal planning and selecting/developing subject matter that provides offerings for every spiritual maturity level.

  • Recruit, train, and equip lay ministry leaders based on the needs of each ministry area.

  • Champion the implementation of a Discipleship Model that will provide a pathway for people at any spiritual maturity level to connect and continuously grow in their faith at Journey Fellowship.

 

Community Groups

  • Advocate the importance of being in Christian Community outside the church.

  • Support and equip Community Group lay leaders through seasonal planning and selection of subject matter that is relevant to members.

  • Help the congregation identify and connect with existing community groups.

  • Identify, encourage, and recruit new Community Group leaders.

  • Cultivate a spirit of service among Community Group leaders and members.

 

Community Engagement

  • Advocate a spirit of outreach and community involvement to the congregation.

  • Support and equip Outreach lay leaders with planning and resources for seasonal events.

  • Represent Journey Fellowship on local committees and boards (City of Schertz, SCUCISD, YMCA, etc.).

  • Identify partnership opportunities with other churches and organizations within the community.

 

Care Ministry

  • Create an intake mechanism to capture and dispatch special care needs such as newborn children, hospital visits, deaths, and other situations/crises needing a response.

  • Identify/Recruit/Equip Care leaders to facilitate the various responses.

  • Create and maintain a way to coordinate and organize Care functions that prevents duplication.

  • Collaborate with church leadership, staff, and lay resources to identify existing Care needs within the congregation and develop ways to address.

 

Other Duties

  • Collaborate with the Lead and Executive Pastors to plan sermon series, church-wide events, Advent and Lent seasons, etc.

  • Manage the budgets of each ministry area as a good steward of church resources.

  • Contribute to the overall appearance and organization of the church facilities (keeping up ministry/common/storage areas).

  • Actively participate in the life of the church as a member in good standing and as an example of a growing disciple of Christ.

  • Live within a reasonable distance of the church to participate in the life of our community.

 

Title of the Role

  • A successful candidate that meets the qualifications of Titus 1:5-9, 1 Tim. 3:1-7, and 1 Peter 5:1-4 will hold the title of Pastor and be expected to assist with pastoral duties such as counseling, weddings, funerals, etc.

  • Otherwise, the successful candidate will hold the title of Minister or Director and will not be expected to fulfill pastoral duties.

About the Church

Journey Fellowship was established in 2005 as the first church plant of Oak Hills Church, and launched as a fully independent, non-denominational church in September of 2019. We are located at 16847 IH35N, Selma, TX 78154 on I-35 between San Antonio and New Braunfels, TX and current attendance is @ 500 and growing. The area boasts a vast array of activities, attractions, and shopping within close proximity of San Antonio, New Braunfels, Austin, and the Texas Hill Country. We are excited to meet the person God has ordained to step into this role!
